  “James” the Rooster Cuddle Buddy  Version 1.0 

Pattern by Accessorize This Designs   

  James the Rooster; adorable, fun and huggable. The cuddle buddies were designed using Premier Parfait yarn for approximately 21 inches of extra soft snuggles! Or use your favourite worsted weight yarn for slightly smaller version.

Materials:    

Hook size. 5.5mm(I) - Bulky (Premier Parfait)  4.0mm (G) - Worsted Weight      Yarn (Bulky or Worsted weight)    Main Colour -  White-  approx 350 yards  Beak/Feet-  Yellow-  100 yards  Wattle/Comb-  Strawberry-  75 yards  Accent Colours - Black, Cream, and Toffee-  small amount    ● Polyester filling – approx. 1lb  ● Stitch Markers  ● Safety pins to help with sewing placement  ● Yarn needle to weave in the ends     

Gauge: 

Bulky Worsted Weight

  Gauge Pattern:

4 rounds of sc = 2 inches diameter  ​4 rounds of sc = 1.75 inches diameter 

Create a Magic Ring  Round 1:  6sc in the ring (6)  Round 2:  2sc in each st (12)  Round 3:  *sc, 2sc* 6 times (18)  Round 4: *sc in the next 2 sts, 2sc* 6 times (24)

With Tail (Cream)    To Add the Eye Gleam  - Thread the Cream‘Tail’  through the needle  - Working counter  clockwise from where  you ended off. Move the  needle under the first  black st and then over  the next st  - Repeat once through the  same set of holes 

 

 

 

 

 

 

With Eye Colour (Toffee)  - Attach in the last black st  worked  - Surface crochet through  the base of all the white  sts (See tutorial in special  sts section)  - End off   

Beak (make 1 top and 1 bottom): The beak is worked in continuous oval rounds  Top Beak   

Using Yellow, ch 4    Round 1:

Bottom Beak: 

  Using Yellow, ch 4    Round 1: 

Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in next st, 3sc, turn and begin working in the bottom of  the chain, sc in the next st, 2sc in the last ch (8)  Round 2:  *sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc* twice (10)  Rounds 3-4​:  sc in each st (10)  End off, leaving a 9” tail for sewing    Wattle (make 2):​ made in continuous rounds   

Using Strawberry, create a Magic Ring    Round 1:  6sc in the Ring (6)  Round 2: *2sc* 6 times (12)  Rounds 3-5​: sc in each st (12)  Round 6: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* twice (10)  Round 7: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* twice (8)  Round 8: *sc in the next 2 sts, scdec* twice (6)  For the first piece, end off after Round 8    For the second piece, Ss in the next st, do not stuff, flatten and sc through both sides, flatten the first piece  and working through both sides of the piece attach with a sc, continue to sc through both sides across the  first piece. End off leaving 12 inch tail for sewing.    Wings: (make 2)  Made in continuous oval rounds 

  Using White ch 8    Round 1: 

Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 5 chs, 5sc  in the last ch, turn and begin working in the bottom of  the chains, sc in the next 5 chs, 2sc in the last ch (18)  Round 2: 2sc, sc in the next 5 sts, *2sc* 5 times, sc in the next 5  sts, *2sc* twice (26)  Round 3: sc, 2sc, sc in the next 5 sts, *sc, 2sc* 5 times, sc in the  next 5 sts, *sc, 2sc* twice (34)  Round 4: sc in the next 2 sts, 2sc, sc in the next 5 sts, *sc in the  next 2 sts, 2sc* 5 times, sc in the next 5 sts *sc in the  next 2 sts, 2sc* twice (42)  Rounds 5-7: sc in each st (42)  Round 8:  Fold in half lengthwise, ss through the first st of this round and the last st of round 7.  Continue working through both sides of the wing, ss in the next 5 sts, open up the  remaining portion of the wing. Comb: (make 3) Made in continuous rounds.  

  Using Strawberry, create a Magic Ring    Round 1:  6 sc in the ring (6)  Round 2:  *2sc* 6 times (12)  Round 3:  *sc in the next st, 2sc* 6 times (18)  Rounds 4-8:   sc in each st (18)  Round 9: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)  Round 10: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 3 times (12)  Round 11: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* twice (10)  End off the first 2 pieces. For the third piece continue to Round 12 to connect the pieces together.  Round 12:

Mark this as the beginning of the round, ​sc in the next 5 sts, join with a sc onto the 2nd  piece. Continue working on the 2nd piece, sc in the next 4 sts. Then join with a sc to  the first piece, continue working around all of the first piece, sc in the next 9 sts. Join  back to the second piece with a sc in the next unworked st. On the 2nd piece, sc in  the next 4 sts. Join onto the third piece with a sc in the first unworked st, sc in the  next 4 sts. (30)  

  End off leaving an 18” tail for sewing    Legs (make 2): The legs are worked from the “toes” to the body, in continuous rounds. Each foot needs  3 front toes and 1 hind toe. Make 2 front toes and finish off after Round 8. Front Toes:   

Using Yellow, create a magic ring   

Round 1:  6sc in the ring (6)  Round 2:  *2sc* 6 times (12)  Rounds 3-5​:  sc in each st (12)  Round 6:  *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* twice (10)  Begin Stuffing  Round 7:  *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* twice (8)  Round 8:  sc in each st (8)   - For the 1st and 2nd toe of each foot, End off at this point,  leaving a 4” tail to sew any hole left between the toes.    - For the 3rd toe, ​do not end off​, continue to Round 9  Round 9:  Mark this as the beginning of the round, ​sc  in the next 4 sts, join with a sc onto the  2nd toe. Continue working on the 2nd toe,  sc in the next 3 sts. Then join with a sc to  the 1st (remaining) toe, continue working  around all of the first toe, sc in the next 7  sts. Join back to the second toe with a sc  in the next unworked st. On the 2nd toe,  sc in the next 3 sts. Join onto the third toe  with a sc in the first unworked st, sc in the  next 3 sts. Created in semi-oval rows. Each piece has a different number of rows before moving to  the scalloped trim. 

 

Using White, ch 9    Row 1:

Row 2:

sc in the next 7 sts, *2sc* 3 times, sc in the next 7 sts, ch1,  turn (20)  Row 3:  sc in the next 7 sts, *2sc, sc* 3 times, sc in the next 7 sts,  ch1, turn (23)  Row 4: sc in the next 8 sts, *2sc, sc in the next 2 sts* 3 times, sc  in the next 6 sts, ch1, turn (26).  Continue to Scalloped Trim for the first piece.  Rows 5-6:  sc in each st, ch1, turn (26)  Continue to Scalloped Trim for the second piece.  Rows 7-8:  sc in each st, ch1, turn (26)  Continue to Scalloped Trim for the third piece.  Scalloped Trim: *sc, sk 1 st, 5dc* 4 times, sc in the next 2 sts, *5dc, sk 1 st,  sc* 4 times  End off all pieces leaving a 12 inch tail for sewing    From largest to smallest, stack the tail feathers on top of one another. Using one of the tails sew the 3 pieces  together along the base of the scalloped trim from the smallest piece. Using the next tail, fold the tail so the  scalloped edges meet, sew the two sides together at the base of the scalloped edges.   

    Bow: (Optional)  

Created in 1 round 

Using Preferred Bow Colour, Ch 6    Round 1: 

3dc in the 2nd ch from the hook, (hdc, sc) in the next ch, ss,  (sc, hdc) in the next ch, (3dc, ch1, ss, ch1, 3dc) into the last  ch, turn and begin working in the bottom of the chs, (hdc,  sc) in the next ch, ss, (sc, hdc) in the next ch, (3dc, ch1, ss)  into the last chain (12dc, 4hdc, 4sc, 4ss)  End off leaving a 24” tail, with 1 ‘heart’ on each side wrap the yarn around the  middle of the bow 15-20 times.    Sewing Placement - I highly recommend pinning ALL parts in place BEFORE sewing to make sure everything  sits properly and is to your liking :)  Top Beak:    Centre on front of the cheeks approx 11 rounds up from  the smallest part of the neck (Round 38). At approx the  centre of the face. Stuff lightly, sew down along row 6.  Bottom Beak:    Place the bottom beak centred just under the top beak.  Do not stuff, sew in place along row 4 of the beak.  “James” the Rooster Cuddle Buddy (v1.0) Accessorize This Designs

Wattle:    Place the wattle centred just under the bottom beak.  Sew in place 

  Eyes:    Place the eyes 1 round above the beak approx 2-3 sts  apart. Sew in place       

  Comb:    Place the comb in between the eyes beginning approx 4  rounds up and extending towards the back of the head.  Sew in place along round 9, adding more stuffing as you  go. Use the extra ends from attaching the pieces in  round 9 to sew up any gaps made.    Wing:      With the scalloped edge pointing down and away from  the body. Attach the point on the wings to round 34 (the  smallest part of the neck) with approx 11 sts between  them. Sew the upside down v-shape created from  folding the piece and ss together in the neck crease.      Legs:    Centred based on the heads position. Place the inner  part of the legs approx 3 sts away from each other, at  about round 8 of the body. Sew down the last full round  of sts.

Tail:    Centred based on the back of the head, place the base of  the tail at approx round 9 of the body. Working vertically  up the seam created after folding and sewing together.  Sew in place.  Bow:    Place bow as desired under the wattle. Sew in place
